The Camellia Bowl becomes bowl No. 36 for 2014

The cavalcade of bowls is increasing next season.

Teams from the MAC and the Sun Belt will meet in Montgomery, Alabama for the Camellia Bowl starting December 2014. The game, owned by ESPN, will be played before Christmas at the Cramton Bowl, a 25,000 seat stadium that has recently been upgraded. Sources told ESPN's Brett McMurphy that it's a six-year agreement for the bowl game. Perhaps those sources are from ESPN?

It's the ninth bowl that ESPN owns and is tentatively scheduled to become the 36th bowl for the 2014 college football season, the first season that the four team playoff for the National Championship. That means that next season, 72 bowl spots will be available for the 126 Division 1 college football teams. That's a number that could increase by two if ESPN creates a bowl in Boca Raton, Florida.
