The highest-rated member of Cal’s 2014 recruiting class has left the team.

Bears head coach Sonny Dykes told the San Francisco Chronicle that wide receiver Erik Brown is no longer with the program due to personal reasons.

The 6-foot-1, 175-pound Brown was rated a four-star recruit and the 124th-best prospect in the country by Rivals.com. He redshirted his first season with the program in 2014 and had not seen the field for the Bears through two weeks this season.

Though he left the team, Dykes said Brown would remain on scholarship and continue his studies at Cal. Brown missed most of preseason camp while focusing on academics.
