Bobby Bowden hits second hole-in-one

Former Florida State coach Bobby Bowden is finding sporting success outside of football.

The 86-year-old hit his second hole-in-one on Monday. According to the Tallahassee Democrat, he hit it at the par-3 12th at the Golf Club of Quincy near Tallahassee.

Swinging his 3-wood from the red tees, Bowden hit a straight, low shot on the relatively flat terrain that rolled between two sand traps on the sides of the green and into the hole, 121 yards away.

“I never hit the ball very high,” Bowden said Tuesday afternoon from his Tallahassee home.

“I rolled it in the gap and it went right in. I had already walked away. I saw it rolling towards the hole and thought, ‘Oh boy, I have a good shot. I hope it stops.'

“Then I turned around and everyone said it went it in.”

Bowden said his first hole-in-one came about five years ago in Alabama. And so what that he hit it with a three-wood. The key to success is much more about hitting the ball straight than it is about hitting it far. Hell, we just want to be playing golf when we're 86, let alone hitting a hole-in-one.

He also has no plans to frame his scorecard from Monday either.

“It’s not like I am going to put it on the wall and look at it all day,” Bowden said and laughed.
