Arizona star linebacker Scooby Wright is injured again.

Wildcats coach Rich Rodriguez told reporters Monday that Wright will miss “several weeks” with a foot sprain. Wright, the 2014 Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, suffered a meniscus tear in a Week 1 win over UTSA on Sept. 3, but was able to return to action over the weekend against UCLA, a 56-30 Arizona loss.

Rodriguez said Wright’s knee was fine, but he “came down wrong” on his right foot against the Bruins. The team feared the foot was broken, but testing revealed a sprain. If the foot was broken, the team would have likely pursued a redshirt for Wright, Rodriguez said.

Wright, a junior, registered 163 tackles, 29 tackles for loss, 14 sacks and six forced fumbles en route to All-American honors in 2014.

Behind Wright, Arizona is thin at middle linebacker. Senior Cody Ippolito was expected to be Wright’s backup while also seeing playing time at strong side linebacker, but suffered a season-ending knee injury in August. Additionally, Haden Gregory, who started for Wright against Nevada, is out for a few weeks with a knee injury.

With both Wright and Haden out, walk-on Tre Tyler started against Northern Arizona on Sept. 19.

In addition to the injury to Wright, starting quarterback Anu Solomon suffered a concussion against UCLA. Rodriguez said Solomon is “day-to-day” and had no update on his status for Saturday’s game at Stanford. If Solomon cannot play, Rodriguez said senior Jerrard Randall and redshirt freshman Brandon Dawkins are candidates to fill in.

The loss to UCLA over the weekend dropped the Wildcats to 3-1 on the season.
