Alabama fan in post-BCS Championship Game assault of LSU fan gets two years in prison

Brian Downing, better known as the Alabama fan who exposed his genitals and rubbed them on the face of a passed-out LSU fan in New Orleans after the Crimson Tide's BCS Championship Game win last season, was sentenced to spend two years in prison.

The Times-Picayune reported that Downing pleaded guilty last month to two obscenity counts in a deal to avoid a trial on the original charge of sexual battery, which could have meant a 10-year sentence and having to register as a sex offender.

The incident took place at a Krystal Burger on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, and video of it quickly went viral online. Downing and the victim both talked to ESPN.com for a long story earlier this year.

The Times-Picayune said Criminal Court Judge Karen Herman called Downing a "bully" during the sentencing.

"You chose wisely to enter into this plea bargain," Herman said, according to the paper. "The actions that you took on Jan. 9 of this year were morally reprehensible, there's no way around it."
