An early look at the Pac-10's super-secret new logo

The Pac-10 Conference won't officially unveil its new logo until later this summer, but some keen eyesight from Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times allows us to have this sneak preview on the far right.

Condotta was walking through Washington's Hec Edmundson Pavilion on the way to a news conference with athletic director Scott Woodward, noticed the new logo painted on the gym floor and snapped a photo of it through the locked doors. A Pac-10 spokesman confirmed to me this afternoon that the photo is indeed the new logo.

My first impression of the logo is that it's neither a huge downgrade nor a huge improvement, but it's definitely symbolic of the changes first-year commissioner Larry Scott is attempting to make. Scott is considering the possibility of adding two or more teams to the conference and intends to launch a new TV network, whether jointly or in partnership with the Big 12.

The fresh look for the logo is the second such change the Pac-10 has made in the past two years. It altered the font and tone of blue of its previous logo prior to the start of the 2008 football season.
