Dunk of the year nominee: J.D. Weatherspoon with inbound nastiness
Toledo senior J.D. Weatherspoon has played in more than 80 games in his career for the Rockets. He's bound to have some great memories from all those contests, but we're betting the dunk he threw down off an inbound pass from Julius Brown on Wednesday will be at or near the top of the list.
Weatherspoon snagged the ball with one hand and smashed it through the rim. The dunk accounted for two of his 11 points in the 68-66 Toledo win. He also grabbed seven rebounds.
Toledo is one of four teams in the Mid-American Conference with a 9-4 conference record. It should be a fun race down the stretch and a competitive league tournament. We could be seeing Weatherspoon and his teammates in the NCAA tournament in March. The Rockets haven't been to the tournament since 1980.
