Mad Dash: Lewis Hamilton under fire for champagne celebration

Celebrating with a champagne party on the podium is one of the longest standing traditions of F1 racing, but a picture from Lewis Hamilton's most recent celebration at the Chinese Grand Prix has the practice – and the driver participating in it – under fire. In the photo (and many others also taken), the hostess being sprayed by the champagne doesn't appear to be enjoying it, and that has led a number of groups like Object, an anti-sexism organization, to call for an apology from Hamilton and an end to the practice. It's of course worth pointing out that the woman in question is likely there of her own volition, but it doesn't take a genius to acknowledge that she looks uncomfortable, and that perhaps the champagne spraying tradition has long run its course. And looking at it from another side: Would winning a race be any less gratifying without the champagne? We're guessing not. Other race circuits have done away with hostesses or "grid girls" because of the sexist nature of their employment at races, and this tense situation will probably pile more pressure on F1 to do the same.

On a less serious note, Matt Ryan and his foursome won his own charity golf tournament. The grand prize for winning the tournament? A football signed by Matt Ryan. Since he didn't have much use for the ball, he gave it away, which was the cherry on top of a day that raised over $90,000 for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

Baseball fans celebrate opening day in their respective cities differently. One fan in St. Louis decided the best way to express his love for the Cardinals was to have a mural of Busch Stadium painted across his bare chest. We can only salute him.
