Mad Dash: Colbert roasts Wake Forest athletics in commencement speech

It's an easy time to crack wise about the Wake Forest athletic department. During the 2014-15 campaign, the Demon Deacons football team combined with the men's and women's basketball programs to win just 29 games. Stephen Colbert, who spoke at the university's commencement ceremony Tuesday, went right for the low-hanging fruit.

"While Wake has been a trailblazer this has been a school that respects tradition," Colbert said. "Traditions like ‘rolling the quad’ with toilet paper after big wins. And this is actually an eco-friendly tradition, because looking at this season’s win-loss record, you guys saved a lot of paper.”

Despite the dig, it took only a well-timed "Duke sucks!" to get the crowd back on his side.

Unlike Wake Forest sports, Shawn Oakman is no joke. The Baylor defensive end was recently featured in an Instagram video executing a 40-inch box jump while holding 70-pound dumbbells in each hand. Add his freakish strength and explosiveness to his giant 6-foot-9-inch frame and you've got one unique NFL prospect.

And finally, our weird minor-league menu item du jour. The Fresno Grizzlies will offer a pepperoni pizza and hot dog amalgamation to fans on May 21, a night that the team is promoting as Halfway Halloween. Appropriately (and quite cleverly, we think), they're calling the creation the "Frankenslice."
