Gatorade bath has become a ‘rite of passage’ for coaches

Do coaches really want a tub of sticky, sugary water dumped on them?

The Gatorade bath in sports has been a time-honored tradition reserved for achievements of the highest kind. But lately, a bath of sticky, sugary water has become commonplace in sports and the PFT crew – specifically Erik Kuselias – takes issue with it.

“We’re going to take a thing of sticky water and dump it on our coach because we won?” Kuslias wonders aloud. “I don’t know; it doesn’t make a lot of sense. I would retire [if I was that coach.]”

But Shaun King – as a former NFL player - certainly comes to the rescue of the bath calling it a “rite of passage” for coaches who have just accomplished a feat worthy of greatness.

“It’s still relevant because it’s a rite of passage,” King tells the PFT crew. “At some point somewhere, there is going to be a coach that is going to do something significant who has never had the Gatorade bath and he will deserve it.”
