CSN: Red Sox dilemma, trade for Cliff Lee without mortgaging the future

The deadline is less than 48 hours away. Much of the recent trade talk in Boston has centered around Jake Peavy. But it appears the White Sox are intent on receiving a king's ransom in return, dimming the Red Sox' interest.

The Sox do remain engaged in talks for Peavy, though, as they are for another star pitcher: Phillies ace Cliff Lee, who would command a package comparable to that of Peavy (if not larger).

On The Show, Rich Levine talked about the circumstances in which a swap for Lee would be palatable for the Sox.

"I think that Lee's the guy that puts you over the top and as long as you're holding onto the [Xander] Bogaerts, the Jackie Bradleys, the Henry Owens, anyone else is available in a package for Cliff Lee," Levine said. "The way he's pitched this year and the way the American League looks right now, he's the guy you make a move for."
