What's next for Tiger Woods: More new events?

Hip, not back, sore on back nine at Wyndham

It took some prodding, but Tiger Woods finally admitted he was hurting a bit on the back nine at the Wyndham Championship.

Woods appeared to grab for his back after his second shot went left on the par-4 11th. Woods made a triple bogey, bogeyed the next hole and fell out of contention for his first win in more than two years.

Woods was asked after his round if his back was bothering him.

"It's not my back, no," said Woods, who had back surgery last year.

When asked what hurt, Woods said, "Just my hip."

The 14-time major champion closed strong with four birdies in his last six holes for an even-par 70 and a T-10 finish, his first top-10 all season.

But Woods was also asked if his hip got any better as the round went on, and he just shook his head "no."

A win at the Wyndham would have given Woods a pass into the first two playoff events – next week's Barclays and the Deutsche Bank Championship.

Woods said he would have been ready to tee it up.

"Yeah, it would have been nice,” Woods said. “Yes, I would have. But I’m not.”
