Video: Scott Dixon clips tire being carried by member of Will Power’s pit crew
When pulling out of his pit stall during Sunday's IndyCar Series race at Sonoma, Scott Dixon hit a tire that was in the hands of one of Will Power's crewmen.
The impact threw the crew member into another at the back of the car, and they both tumbled to the ground as Power pulled out of his pit. Another crew member got clipped by an air gun in Power's pit.
All three said they were OK after the incident.
Dixon was leading when the contact happened, and was later given a penalty for the contact with 15 laps to go. His team was furious about the incident, saying that Power's crew member was in the way of Dixon's path leaving the pits, but IndyCar race director Beaux Barfield said after the race that the series had determined that Dixon was in Power's pit box when he made contact with the tire. (Barfield said that the white lines painted on pit road and used during Sprint Cup Series races were not the delineations used by IndyCar.)
Dixon's drive-through penalty handed the lead over to Power, who held on to win the race, his first win since May of last year.
