Esteban Gutierrez flipped after contact from Pastor Maldonado in Bahrain F1 race
Sauber's Esteban Gutierrez got airborne after colliding with Pastor Maldonado during Sunday's Formula 1 race in Bahrain.
Gutierrez was going into turn one at full speed and Maldonado had just exited the pits. As Gutierrez dove down to the inside of the corner, he obviously didn't expect Maldonado to not rescind the line and his car barrel rolled before thankfully coming to rest with its wheels up.
Maldonado has been docked points and qualifying positions for the next F1 race for his role in the crash.
The in-car portion of the video is dramatic and there's a good reason why it cuts off mid-flip. The piece above Gutierrez's cockpit is the camera and it was sheared off when his car bounced off the pavement upside-down.
He got out of the car under his own power, and the ensuing caution set up a dramatic dash to the finish of the race, which was won by Lewis Hamilton.
