Rob Font banks big reward from UFC 175 debut
Rob Font still remembers the biggest tip he ever got back when he used to deliver pizzas. "It was $55 on a $10 order or something crazy like that," he laughs.
"The house was so big that there was a gate to let me in. I delivered the food then got to the gate and had to get let out. The guy was there and asked me, 'did my son take care of you?' I told him, 'It's no big deal.' He told me to wait a second then pulled out $55. My Pizza Hut was right next to the bank so I was in the habit of throwing my money in the bank. I cashed out and took the money right to the bank next door."
Well, on Saturday night, Rob Font the debuting UFC bantamweight beat Rob Font the pizza delivery old man's gratituity record, just by a few bucks. After knocking out accomplished veteran George Roop in the first round at UFC 175, the debuting Rob Font earned his first UFC victory as well as a $50,000 performance of the night bonus to go along with his $8,000 to show and $8,000 to win purse.
As such, Font's win last Saturday is officially life-changing. Even so, he's got the same plans for his extra $50k that he had for that $55 tip years ago. "Honestly, I'm going to put it in the bank and let it sit," he tells Cagewriter.
"I want a little comfort zone. I guess I'll spend a little on my girl but other than that, it's going in the bank."
If Font has his way, he'll be back in the Octagon soon, earning once more. The bantamweight says that he's in perfect health after his quick KO win and wants in on the September UFC Fight Night 50 card in Connecticut.
"I came out perfect. No injuries, no scratches, no bruises. Everything went smooth in the fight so I'm good to go," he says.
Font will take the rest of this week off and take a trip to visit family. Then, Sunday night, he'll get back home and get back to work.
After UFC 175, Font called for a fight against Sergio Pettis but says he'll fight anyone. "The September card in Connecticut would be great. It doesn’t matter who it is," he says.
"I think it would be a good fight but if for whatever reason it doesn’t happen, that would cool, too."
