MMA fanhood for cheapskates: chances to get free stuff

Being an MMA fan can be an expensive undertaking. Watching fights on television – whether ordering them from home, going to a buddy's house and splitting the PPV, or watching them from a bar – usually involves spending some cash. Going to major fights will cost you hundreds of dollars in tickets, food and beer, and that's only if you're lucky enough to have a show come to your neighborhood. Even at smaller shows, you're likely to spend at least $40 each on tickets. Throw in the costs of T-shirts, DVDs and books, and MMA fans can use a break. Luckily, there are plenty of MMA companies and fighters who like to give stuff away.

B.J. Penn wants to give you the opportunity to attend UFC 98 with him, but it's not easy. He wants you to go into your community, do a project for the good of everyone, film it, and post it on his Web site, BJPenn.com. Also, get it done by this Monday. The good news is that if you're already helping your community, you're in a good position to win this contest. Click here for more information. (Registration required, but if you're going to enter the contest, you will need to register anyway.)

No Fear energy drink is giving away instant prizes every time you enter a code from the drinks, and one of those prizes is a trip to a World Extreme Cagefighting event. You can also rack up points and redeem them for MMA gear. Click here for more information and to redeem codes.

Reed Harris, general manager of the WEC, promises to give away a chance to win WEC tickets and merchandise to those who follow him on Twitter. It's easy enough to do, and you'll also get regular WEC updates. (While you're following people on Twitter, don't forget Kevin Iole, Steve Cofield and me.)

FTH Fight Gear gives away gear once a month to one lucky email newsletter subscriber. Just go to their site and enter in your email address, and you have a chance to win.

Of course, you're not guaranteed to win anything if you enter, but as a wise commercial once told me, you've got to be in it to win it.
