Former UFC fighter and wife found dead

Justin Levens

, a veteran mixed martial arts fighter was found dead with his wife on Wednesday afternoon in what may be a murder-suicide. McLean-Levens mother made the discovery. CBS reports the couple was found shot to death in bed. From CBS2 in Los Angeles:

Orange County sheriff's officials say the bodies of Justin Levens and his wife Sarah McLean-Levens were found Wednesday afternoon.

The 28-year-old Levens competed in the Ultimate Fighting Championship and other fighting federations.

Sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino says the couple were found by the woman's mother, who called 911

TMZ.com points out that Levens (pictured in the middle) did lose one of his two UFC fights to the recently deceased Evan Tanner:

Levens had a career record of 9-8 and fought in several different MMA leagues, including the IFL, WEC and UFC. In a morbid twist, Levens once lost to Evan Tanner -- the UFC fighter who was in the desert back in September.

Levens, a native of Philadelphia, had lost five straight fights and recently tested positive for oxymorphone before a canceled fight against Ray Lazama on the Jul. 19 Affliction card in Anaheim.

Levens fought three times in the International Fight League as a member of the California Condors. He is the second member of that squad to die in the last 19 months. Jeremy Williams, a middleweight who trained under the same coach as Levens, Marco Ruas, committed suicide in May of 2007.
