'Unruly' Irish passengers cause Las Vegas-bound plane to return to JFK

There might be only one thing citizens of Ireland enjoy more than a Conor McGregor fight, and that’s enjoying some fine adult beverages.

Mix Conor McGregor fans, adult beverages, and an enclosed space – say, oh, I don’t know, a Jet Blue flight traveling from New York to Las Vegas – and you have yourself a recipe for chaos.

Thursday, Jet Blue Flight 611 left New York en route to Sin City. Then, after just 25 minutes, the flight had to be rerouted back to JFK airport due to disorderly Irish passengers.

According to witness reports, trouble began when the boisterous McGregor faithful decided to break out in “Ole!” chants before takeoff. Due to the level of the yelling, one particularly intoxicated passenger was removed from the flight.

Thus leading to a lengthy delay, causing the flight to miss its initial takeoff.

Then, after the delay, and after 30 minutes into their voyage, two Irish fans began arguing. Some ‘slaps’ were thrown, the crew intervened, and the flight was diverted back to New York.

The two fans were quickly escorted off the flight, and in all likelihood, into a nice comfy jail cell. No UFC 194. No watching Conor McGregor. No more “Ole!” chants (presumably).

Many of the fans traveling on the New York to Las Vegas flight were in the midst of a 10-plus hour journey. Needless to say, they were not pleased with their fellow countrymen.

One fan, in particular, a Damien Coyne of Kildare, Ireland – a passenger on Thursday’s flight – took to social media and gave a very poignant piece of advice that everyone should abide by:

"Moral of the story here lads, drink by all means and have a good time! But know the one that's one too many, and look out for each other!!"
