Spieth and Reed hang on for the only U.S. points on Saturday afternoon

Let's make one thing clear: Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed will not be the reason why the U.S. loses its third consecutive Ryder Cup. However, they let a crucial half-point slip away in their Saturday afternoon foursomes match against Justin Rose and Martin Kaymer.

Once again, it was the middle of the round where Spieth and Reed made their mark, winning the fourth, sixth and seventh holes to overcome a loss on the third hole.

However, on the back nine, the Europeans played steady golf, while the Americans made bogeys at Nos. 12 and 15 to hand the Europeans a chance to earn points with three holes to play. Patrick Reed missed a short par putt on the par-5 16th that likely would have set the Americans up for a full point. They managed to birdie the par-3 17th to retake the advantage, but could not overcome match a European birdie on the 18th hole.

Spieth and Reed end the week going 2-0-1, playing well and the highlight of the week for the American side.
