Showdown, Week 4: Watney, Crane, & Snedeker

So in an attempt to inject a bit more life and interest into tournaments, and because we're all inveterate gamblers who are one bad card from being out on the streets, Jay Busbee, Jonathan Wall and I are playing a golf version of a football suicide pool: We each pick one golfer per tournament and see how they do against each other, straight up. Victory over the other guy gets one point, victory in the tournament gets three points, and a tie between two of the three lands you half a point. (Double for the majors.) And when we burn a golfer, he's done for the year. Busbee won the inaugural run at this, so we decided to add a third member to the team. The season is really starting to heat up with the Farmers Insurance Open.

Wall: I'm going to roll with Nick Watney this week. His past success in this event makes him a must-play, in my opinion. He won the event in 2009 and also has four top-10 finishes in his last five starts at Torrey. With numbers like those, I have a feeling he's going to produce another strong finish.

Busbee: I'm taking Señor Shake Shake this week. He's played two events, made two cuts, got two top-10s. That's good enough of a start to the season for me. Sure, he was all over the map at the Humana, even holding a share of the lead during a chaotic Friday, but he's stumbling in the right direction.

Bacon: Sure, my theory of not going with the big names might be killing my chances, but it isn't like I'm at Washington Wizards level right now. I so want to go with Lefty here, but I won't, and instead, will go with Brandt Snedeker, who has a good history here and is coming off some impressive golf last week at the Humana.

Last Week: Well lookie there, the rook comes through. No, not one of the players from last week, Mr. Wall, who snagged Martin Laird and beat out Busbee's pick of Bill Haas and Bacon's weak pick of Brian Gay.

Current Score: Wall - 1.5, Busbee - 1.5, Bacon - 0.

Already Used: Wall - Woodland, Choi, Laird. Busbee - Watney, Simpson, Haas. Bacon - Toms, Na, Gay.
