Showdown, Week 31: Gary Woodland vs. Bo Van Pelt
So in an attempt to inject a bit more life and interest into tournaments, and because we're both inveterate gamblers who are one bad card from being out on the streets, Shane Bacon and I are playing a golf version of a football suicide pool: We each pick one golfer per tournament and see how they do against each other, straight up. Victory over the other guy gets one point, victory in the tournament gets three points. (Double for the majors.) And when we burn a golfer, he's done for the year. This week, it's the WGC at Bridgestone.
Bacon: As you can see by our page, this week is all about Tiger Woods (and I mean ALL!), but that doesn't mean he's who I want to be carrying me into another major championship (and to be fair, I've already burned him as a pick). I'll take lesser known Gary Woodland, who hasn't missed a cut since the last time Tiger teed it up in an event, and finished fourth a week ago at the Greenbrier.
Busbee: Much as I'd love to throw that big TW into the headline, I'm going to take a safer but much less known pick and go with Bo Van Pelt. Linus and Lucy's little brother has finished no lower than T13 in six of his last seven tournaments, including a T6 at the RBC Canadian, so he's rolling. Of course, Woods finished T4 at his last tournament, so ... nah. Van Pelt it is.
Last Week: Busbee took Sergio Garcia, while Bacon took Jeff Overton. And while neither player exactly lit up the leaderboard, Garcia finished T38 and Overton finished two strokes back at T48. El Niño rides again!
