Angels' Ohtani hit hard by Mexican team

Two-way Japanese star Shohei Ohtani struck out six batters in three innings Friday, but little else in his stint on the mound went well.

Ohtani surrendered six runs on five hits, hit two batters, walked one and threw two wild pitches in a Los Angeles Angels "B" game against the Tijuana Toros of the Mexican League.

Ohtani was scheduled to throw about 60 pitches in four innings, but he left after throwing 64 (including 42 strikes) through three.

"I felt like I made a lot of good pitches and quite a few bad ones," Ohtani told the Orange County Register through an interpreter. "The good thing I got out of this outing was pitching with runners on base, out of the stretch."

The paper reported Ohtani's fastball registered in the 92-95 mph range and that he threw sliders and splitters that had some bite to them.
