Zeeland's Isaac DeVries signs with Saginaw Valley
ZEELAND - Already one of the top breaststrokers in the state, Zeeland's Isaac DeVries transformed himself into one of the top freestylers as well.
The Zeeland senior swam to a state runner-up finish in the 200-yard freestyle at the Division 1 state meet and took fourth in the 100 breaststroke.
That layer of versatility didn't go unnoticed by colleges.
DeVries signed a national letter-of-intent to accept a swimming scholarship at Saginaw Valley State University this week, an NCAA Division II program.
"This opportunity means a lot to me and I am very thankful to be able to keep swimming in college and further my swimming career after high school," DeVries said. "I chose Saginaw Valley State University because I felt very at home when I was there. They had a great team dynamic that I really appreciated. It felt like everyone there wanted to work hard and get better everyday. They have a great up and coming program I only see them getting better from here on out. I am beyond excited the future at Saginaw Valley."

DeVries broke the school record in the 200 freestyle at the state meet and finished with the best performance of his career.
"He has gotten stronger and it is really showing in the power in and out of those walls," Zeeland coach Drew Scheerhorn said during the season.
For DeVries, it was a stellar finish to a stellar high school career.
"I saw a race and finished as strong as I could," DeVries said. "It was everything I could have wished for, for my senior year. I am happy with how it ended."
