New Zealand vs. Norway 3 a.m. EDT on Fox: How to watch first game of 2023 World Cup

Set your alarm. The opening game of the 2023 FIFA World Cup starts early – or late, depending on your time zone.

Co-host country New Zealand gets to start the tournament with the opening match against Norway at Eden Park in Auckland, New Zealand. The game is scheduled to begin Thursday at 3 a.m. EDT/12 a.m. PDT. It will be the first of three games you can watch Thursday on Fox: Australia vs. Republic of Ireland play at 6 a.m. EDT, and Nigeria vs. Canada at 10:30 p.m. EDT.

New Zealand and Norway are in Group A with Philippines and Switzerland rounding out the group. Norway is the favorite – the team is ranked No. 13 in the World Cup field and #12 in the world – but the match could be a good one as New Zealand is ranked No. 16 in the field (and No. 26 in the world).

In the 2019 World Cup held in France, Norway lost in the quarterfinals to England 3-0, while New Zealand didn't see a win.
