Zadora, Killingly undefeated on the mat: Vote for the Norwich H.S. Athlete of the Week

Plainfield’s Brayden Rizer was voted The Bulletin Athlete of the Week.

Rizer, a junior forward, collected 21 points, including four 3-pointers, six rebounds and three steals, to lead the Panthers to a 73-54 boys basketball victory over Norwich Tech. Rizer also made five 3-pointers and finished with 20 points, five rebounds, and five steals in Plainfield’s 64-61 win over Montville.

Rizer’s big week included an 11-point, five-rebound, three-steal performance in a loss against Wheeler.

Last week saw plenty of standout performances in boys and girls basketball, wrestling, and gymnastics across Eastern Connecticut. While there's no shortage of talent, we went and found the best of the best.

Kylie Damble, Ellis Tech

Golden Eagles senior forward collected 15 points, four assists, and three rebounds as the Ellis Tech girls basketball team improved to 11-2 with a 49-35 victory over Prince Tech. Damble also scored 12 points in the Golden Eagles’ 63-38 win over CTC rival Norwich Tech.

Connor McRae, Norwich Tech

The Warriors senior made five 3-pointers and finished with 25 points in a 66-60 boys basketball win over  Tourtellotte. McRae also had 11 points, four rebounds, and four assists in the Warriors’ 58-44 loss against Coventry.

Emily Orcutt, Norwich Free Academy

The Wildcats junior center scored 16 points to lift the Norwich Free Academy girls basketball team past Woodstock Academy, 41-37. Orcutt also had a team-high 11 points in NFA’s 45-29 win over Killingly.

Zaire Wallace Norwich Free Academy 

The Wildcats senior wrestler rolled to four victories over Ledyard, Staples, Law, and Notre Dame-West Haven as Norwich Free Academy (17-3) captured the championship at the annual Carl Snitkin Memorial Duals at Alumni Gymnasium in Norwich.

Brady Zadora, Killingly

The Killingly junior wrestler rolled to wins over Newington, Fairfield Prep, Morgan, and Bristol Eastern as Killingly (24-0) extended a school record 54-match winning streak by winning the Shoreline Duals at Branford High School.
