What Zach Wilson said after the Jets handed the Eagles their first loss of the season

Zach Wilson’s path to his team’s surprising win over the previously undefeated Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday may have been bumpy, but it’s also been “tons of fun.”

The quarterback told reporters during his postgame press conference that he “can’t even talk about” what this season’s meant to him.

“I’m having tons of fun, especially when we pull out a big win like that,” Wilson said after his team’s 20-14 win, the Jets’ first in franchise history against the Eagles.

The former BYU quarterback added that he feels like he’s “getting into a flow,” despite what the stats sheet shows.

“I get that, statistically, and things like that, things weren’t great,” he said. “But I feel like, as an offense, we’re really close.”

Wilson went 19 of 33 for just 186 yards during Sunday’s game. The Jets are now 3-3.

How did the Jets beat the Eagles?

The Jets-Eagles game was full of surprises, including during Philadelphia’s first offensive drive.

When quarterback Jalen Hurts lost the ball while reaching for a touchdown on fourth down near the end of the first quarter, officials initially said he’d failed to score and that the Jets offense should take over.

But after a lengthy review, that call was overturned, and six points appeared for the Eagles on the scoreboard. After the PAT, it was 7-0 Eagles.

The Jets made a field goal near the beginning of the second quarter, but the Eagles followed it up with another touchdown off a Hurts pass to running back D’Andre Swift.

Despite making two more field goals before the half, the Jets were trailing 14-9 at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Jets got yet another field goal after a promising offensive drive was disrupted by Wilson getting sacked. The Jets were still behind 14-12 heading into the fourth quarter.

As the game clock ticked down, the Eagles made costly errors. In the fourth quarter alone, Philadelphia missed a field goal and Hurts was intercepted twice.

The second fourth quarter interception put the Jets offense within 10 yards of the end zone with under two minutes left.

Running back Breece Hall only needed one play to score, giving the Jets their first lead of the game. Wilson then hit receiver Randall Cobb for the two-point conversion, making it 20-14.

The Eagles got the ball back but failed to get a first down. Wilson kneeled twice to let the clock run out.

Jets-Eagles history

The Jets did more than hand the Eagles their first loss of the season on Sunday. They also handed Philadelphia their first-ever loss in the history of the matchup, according to Football Database.

Since the two teams first met in 1973, the Eagles had gone 12-0 in the series. Now, the record stands at 12-1.
