Zach Ertz’s new contract with Cardinals worth more than $31M

The Arizona Cardinals announced that they agreed to terms with tight end Zach Ertz to return to the team on a three-year contract. They retain him after acquiring him in a midseason trade.

The initial report said it maintained Ertz among the 10 highest-paid tight ends in the NFL.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler had further details of the deal with some of the financials.

According to Fowler, the three-year contract is for $31.65 million, including $17.5 million guaranteed.

What will be interesting to see in the days to come is how much he receives to sign and what his salary cap hit will be this coming season.

Based on how other contracts have been handled, the guaranteed number will likely include the signing bonus, this year’s salary and at least a portion of his 2023 salary. To reduce the cap hit, there could also be voiding years on the back end.

But the Cardinals retain an offensive weapon whom Kyler Murray trusts. With the return of DeAndre Hopkins from his knee injury, the passing game should be in good shape.
