New York high school baseball championship game ends in worst way possible

The saying by baseball legend Yogi Berra that 'It ain't over till it's over' came to life at the end of a championship game Saturday and is turning into a viral video on social media.

Palmyra-Macedon is the Section V Class B1 champion after winning the tournament final that came to a confusing, bizarre end - something like the game action in the original Bad News Bears movie.

The Red Raiders, trailing Hornell by a run, were a strike away from a disappointing end to their push for sectional titles in back-to-back-to-back seasons.

Palmyra-Macedon had runners on second and third base in the bottom of the seventh and final inning. There was no runner at first base. A right-handed hitter swung and missed a pitch inside that was presumed by the home plate umpire to hit dirt, causing a tag to be applied or an on-time throw to first base to complete the strikeout.

While the Hornell catcher went out to the mound to start celebrating, the Palmyra-Macedon batter at the plate went running to first base. His teammates made their way to home plate.

None of the baserunners were tagged in time, and all three made it to home plate. The two Palmyra-Macedon baserunners to cross home plate during the chaotic play gave the Red Raiders a stunning 6-5 win, touching off a celebration replacing the one by Hornell players realizing what unfolded.

SportsCenter replayed video of the play, that is being retweeted on Twitter.
