Yankees waive another struggling veteran, making Harrison Bader available

Hours after releasing Josh Donaldson during the last year of his contract, the Yankees reportedly placed center fielder Harrison Bader on waivers.

Erik Boland of Newsday was the first to report the move.

According to the AP’s figures, the Yankees would save just over $750,000 if Bader were claimed by another club, presumably a contender, before Sept. 1, when a player claimed on waivers can be eligible for postseason roster inclusion.

In recent days, manager Aaron Boone has reduced Bader’s playing time.

Including Tuesday night’s 4-2 Yankees win at Detroit, Bader is batting .100 (5-for-50) with one extra-base hit over his last 16 games.

Like Donaldson, Bader made two trips to the IL this season, and the Bronxville center fielder is moving toward free agency this fall.

Bader is clearly not part of the 2024 design.
