Yahoo Fantasy to host Inaugural Yahoo Fantasy Football Championship on Sunday

This Sunday December 12, the top fantasy players in the country will face off for the title of Best Yahoo Fantasy Football Player and $200K in cash prizes at an exclusive, all-expenses paid weekend at MGM National Harbor Resort & Casino in Maryland. NFL legends and Super Bowl champions Vernon Davis and Torrey Smith will help host the event, which is the first of its kind for Yahoo Fantasy.

Over the past 10 weeks, Yahoo Fantasy users had multiple free and paid ways to qualify for a coveted spot in the final, including contests through various products and experiences such as Daily Fantasy, season-long leagues, Best Ball, and social media.

Qualified winners will now gather for a weekend jam packed with events, experiences, and special guests. The first-place champion will walk away with $100K after the live final, with all participants receiving at least $1K. Covid protocols will be strictly enforced.

Geoff Reiss, Head of Sports Gaming and Betting at Yahoo, says this is just the beginning for live events of this kind. “We’re thrilled to welcome the very best Yahoo Fantasy Champs at our first championship event. We’re looking forward to some friendly — but intense — competition, and a lot of fun. Our hope is not only to make this an annual event, but to replicate it across multiple sports.”

The winners won’t be the only ones scrutinizing their fantasy picks this weekend; Torrey Smith and Vernon Davis will also go one-on-one in a Daily Fantasy contest, with the winning proceeds going to their personal non-profit foundations, LEVEL 82 and The Vernon Davis Foundation, both of which focus on improving the lives of young people in their communities.

“I’m excited to be part of the first-ever Yahoo Fantasy Football Championship this weekend. Fantasy football is a huge part of our sport and Yahoo continues to deliver innovative experiences for fans to get in on the action. I’m also looking forward to some competition with Vernon!” said Smith.
