Wyomissing defeats Nazareth Academy in first round of PIAA Class 2A girls soccer playoffs

Nov. 7—Dulce Lytle scored off an assist from Sophia Zeppos in the first half to help Wyomissing defeat Nazareth Academy 1-0 in a PIAA Class 2A girls soccer first-round game Tuesday at Holy Family University in Philadelphia.

The District 3 runner-up Spartans (22-2-1) will face defending and District 4 champ Central Columbia — a 6-0 winner over Schuylkill Valley Tuesday — in a quarterfinal game Saturday, site and time to be announced.

Ellie Pat Benedict made nine saves for Wyomissing, which outshot District 12 champ Nazareth Academy 10-9.

The Spartans won in the first round of states for the third straight season. Wyomissing lost to Central Columbia 7-1 last year in the semifinals.
