Wrestling titles be decided Friday night in Rapid City with area standouts heavily featured

Feb. 24—RAPID CITY — Repeat title chasers highlight the Friday night slate for the South Dakota state high school wrestling championship matches at Summit Arena.

Burke/Gregory's Owen Hansen will pick up his pursuit of a third consecutive state championship after a semifinal win at 132 pounds over Canton's Ashton Keller by 9-4 decision. Hansen enters the match at 42-0, as one of four remaining undefeated in Class B wrestling this season, along with Remmers, Redfield 106-pounder Brady Risetter and Canton's 195-pounder Tanner Meyers.

In the Class A bracket, Chamberlain's Noah Hutmacher earned a second period fall over Rocky Wiedman, of Todd County, to move on to the championship match at the 220-pound weight class. Hutmacher is now 37-1 on the season.

Mitchell's Jagger Tyler advanced to the Class A state championship round at 152 pounds after a 9-2 win over Kale Crowser, of Douglas/Rapid City Christian/New Underwood. Tyler, a senior with a 41-3 record, will face Harrisburg's Logan O'Connor, who is 39-7.

McCook Central/Montrose will send two wrestlers to the championship round. Jackson Remmers was an 8-1 winner in the 152-pound weight class, moving to 50-0 on the season after defeating Redfield's Mason Whitley. Remmers is looking for his second title in the last three seasons.

Remmers will take on Parkston's Porter Neugebauer, who battled to earn a 4-1 decision over Philip Area's Blair Blasius in the semifinals. Neugebauer is 38-5 on the season as a Trojan senior.

MCM also has Kade Grocott advanced after a disqualification of top-seeded Levi Wieman, of Parker, in the second period when Wieman performed an illegal move in an effort to get a takedown. Grocott will take on Mobridge-Pollock's Aiden Schoenhard in the 220-pound championship match.

Kimball/White Lake will have three wrestlers in Friday night's finals, including Gavin Braun (120), Kasen Konstanz (126) and Carter Lenz (145), plus Elena Brennan in the girls 154-pound championship. Braun earned a 3-0 win over Howard's Conner Giedd in the semifinals, while Konstanz was a 5-3 winner over Teague Granum, of Canton. Lenz advanced with a 7-0 decision over Kingsbury County's Dylan Zell in the semifinals. Brennan, who was seeded No. 6 in her bracket, continued her march to a state title with a pin of Brookings' Maya Erickson in 1 minute and 49 seconds.

Wagner will be represented by Karstyn Lhotak in the 120-pound championship, after he earned a 3-1 sudden victory outcome over MCM's Trystan Traupel. The matchup between Lhotak and Braun is a rematch of the 106-pound title match in 2022, won by Braun.

Winner Area has two finalists, after victories from Riley Orel (160) and Jack Kruger (182). Orel won to improve to 54-2 on the season with a 7-1 decision over Lyman's Tance Wagner, while Kruger is now 32-2 after a 11-4 win over Keegan Haider, of Wessington Springs/Woonsocket/Wolsey-Wessington.

Bon Homme/Scotland/Avon will have two wrestlers pursuing girls state titles. Britney Rueb won her semifinal over MCM's Alexis Bryant, 5-0, at 120 pounds and Peyton Hellmann won by forfeit at 126 pounds.

The championship round starts at 7 p.m. Central at Summit Arena. The match order

will be voted upon by fans with a poll created through South Dakota Public Broadcasting.
