WR Tyler Boyd joining Steelers gains some traction

It has always felt like Cincinnati Bengals wideout Tyler Boyd could end up with the Pittsburgh Steelers in free agency.

With it seemingly clear that Boyd won’t return to Cincinnati with the team putting major money into WRs Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, the Clairton, Pennsylvania, native always seemed like a candidate to return home.

And according to The Athletic’s Mark Kaboly, there’s a mutual interest there: “Steelers and WR Tyler Boyd (Pitt/Clairton) have mutual interest and have had dialogue about him returning to his hometown. Nothing is imminent but there is more than just smoke with it.”

It’s easy to see this playing out, too. The Steelers traded WR Diontae Johnson this week, freeing up a spot in the offense, and they need a veteran like Boyd to help along George Pickens.

Boyd landing with the Steelers has been so obvious that he even had to answer a question about it back in back in January.

Now, it seems like we’re one step closer to Boyd having a new team for the first time since entering the league in 2016 — joining a direct rival to the Bengals in the AFC North.
