Find out who won Daily Leader Athlete of the Week poll for May 6-11

With the prep sports season coming to end, there have still been quality efforts being recorded. Garnering the most votes in the latest poll was Mackenzie Wesson of the Lexington-Ridgeview softball team as she cleared the field to be voted the Pontiac Daily Leader's Athlete of the Week for the week of May 6-11.

Wesson collected seven base hits, including two doubles, and drove in eight runs, including the game-winner against WFC, for Lexington-Ridgeview’s softball team that went 3-1 for the week.

Wesson brought in 726 votes, which was 44.79 percent of the overall total on the Athlete of the Week poll this week. Maddie Gourley of Pontiac’s softball team came in a distant second with 286 votes (17.64 percent). Dwight baseball player Ryan Bumpous was placed third at 174 (10.8 percent) votes. There were 1,621 votes cast.

The rest of the nominees were Eleana Atkins of Lexington-Ridgeview, Prairie Central’s Izabelle Behrends, Henry Brummel and Zechariah Landstrom of Pontiac, Mikayla Chambers of Dwight, the El Paso-Gridley girls’ track team and Shae Simons of Woodland-Flanagan-Cornell.
