Find out who won Daily Leader Athlete of the Week poll for May 13-18

Another high vote count was tallied as readers had their input in the Athlete of the Week. Garnering the most votes was Mady Ely of the Dwight softball team as she overwhelmed the field to be voted the Pontiac Daily Leader's Athlete of the Week for the week of May 13-18.

Ely was dominant in the circle in leading the Trojans to the Class 1A Dwight Regional championship. She struck out 14 and allowed no hits against St. Anne and fanned 14 while giving up four hits and one earned run in the title game win over Gardner-South Wilmington.

Ely brought in 2,172 votes, which was 43.65 percent of the overall total on the Athlete of the Week poll this week. Jeremy Melton of Pontiac came in second with 859 votes (17.26 percent), edging track teammate Amare Curtiss, who was placed third at 778 (15.64 percent) votes. There were 4,976 votes cast.

The rest of the nominees were Luke Gallet, Megan Livingston and Graham Meister of Dwight, Pontiac’s Sienna Metz, Shae Simons of Woodland-Flanagan-Cornell and the El Paso-Gridley girls’ track team.
