Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

That's all from us, we hope you enjoyed that game! The next one will come around soon, but until then, it's goodbye for now.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

17:16

With two wins from two, both by a scoreline of 4-1, Brighton top the Premier League table with the number six in both the points column and the goal difference one too. Roberto de Zerbi's side have started as they mean to go on, and some of the football on display will certainly spell danger for West Ham next time out. At the other end though, are Wolves, propping up the rest in 20th place with zero points and a goal difference of minus four. Brighton's three-goal burst in the second half was a mountain too high for Gary O'Neil's side to climb, and with Everton up next, Wolves need to ensure that their clear defensive frailties are addressed sooner rather than later.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

17:10

The ever-dependable Solly March was absolutely everywhere for the Seagulls, flying up and down the field and twice popping up in the right place to finish off Enciso's superb crosses. As well as a brace, March managed five shots, with four on target, and attempted four crosses, creating one big chance. Winning six of his team-high 13 duels, March turned possession over on nine occasions via two tackles, three interceptions and four clearances, twice doing so in the final third to springboard Brighton's attacks.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

17:07

A sensational performance from Brighton sees them return to the south coast with all three points, scoring three quick-fire goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half. Mitoma and Estupinan combined to finish off a move that came just 41 seconds after the restart, before March got his name on the scoresheet twice in four minutes, slotting home two pinpoint passes from the impressive Enciso. Wolves did pull a goal back through Hwang's header, but a late red card for Matheus characterised a disjointed and dispassionate performance from the hosts, who were met with a chorus of jeers from their own fans at full-time.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

FULL-TIME: WOLVES 1-4 BRIGHTON AND HOVE ALBION.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

17:02

Gilmour attempts to release Pedro for one last attack as he fires a cross-field ball over the top, but the substitute is offside and the linesman flags accordingly.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

17:01

The second half goes from bad to worse for Wolves, who will play out the remainder of extra time a man down following that brain explosion from Matheus. They looked to have re-gained some composure following Brighton's three-goal burst early in the half, but apparently nobody told their number 27!

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

16:58

BLOCKED!!! Cunha drives Wolves forward late on, playing a one-two in the box with Matheus before teeing up Beuno to his left. The substitute's first-time effort is blocked, and his second attempt skews away as Brighton survive a late onslaught from the hosts!

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

16:57

Lemina has gone down holding his knee in the Brighton box, but after a short period on the deck, the Gabonese midfielder returns to his feet and we can get back underway.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

16:54

NINE added minutes in this second half, which is hardly surprising given how many goals, cards and stoppages we've seen!

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

16:45

The frantic nature of this game's first 65 minutes has somewhat calmed in the last 15, however you still get the sense that another could come at any time, at either end.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

16:43

Since Roberto De Zerbi's first game in charge in October 2022, Brighton's Premier League games have seen more goals scored than any other side (119). Only Man City (74) and Arsenal (73) have scored more goals than the Seagulls' 69 in this time.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

16:38

CHANCE!!! Cunha breaks down the right and fires a teasing cross towards Hwang at the far post, but Webster slides in well to scythe the ball behind and prevent a tap-in for the Wolves substitute!

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

16:35

Yellow Card Matheus Luiz Nunes

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

16:34

A mid-air clash of heads between Kilman and Ferguson leaves the Brighton substitute worse off, and he leaves the field for a concussion check just as soon as he came on!

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

16:33

Enciso and Dawson are caught in a tangle on the near touchline, with the Wolves defender penalised and the Brighton playmaker staying down to receive treatment, allowing for a rare pause in this incredibly pacy game.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

16:30

Substitution Craig Dawson Tote António Gomes

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

16:27

Enciso rides two challenges with such ease and attempts to play a one-two with Mitoma, but the winger's return ball to Enciso is overhit, allowing Sa to collect in the Wolves box.

16:26

16:04

We're back and ready for the second half, with Wolves first out of the tunnel and in dire need of an equaliser if they're to have any chance of saving this game!

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

16:03

Mitoma's opener was his only shot of the half, but he's been a crucial factor in all of Brighton's numerous chances so far. Eight touches in the box, as well as nine passes in the final third have seen him create two chances for team-mates, while he's also won three of his four duels, two of them dribbles, and a free-kick, as Brighton look to exploit the Wolves rearguard every time they switch the ball left.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

16:00

And end-to-end 45 minutes of football comes to a halt, with Brighton leading thanks to an unbelievable goal from Mitoma. The Japan winger danced his way through half the Wolves team before a cool, cool finish, showing just why his stock has risen so high during his time on the south coast. Brighton had the majority of the early chances, with Welbeck and Gross both drawing saves from Sa, although Wolves had opportunities of their own, with Neto denied a goal by the offside flag, and a potential Silva equaliser denied by a brilliant Steele save. With chances galore at both ends, the second half looks set to be a cracker, so don't go anywhere!

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:52

HALF-TIME: WOLVES 0-1 BRIGHTON AND HOVE ALBION.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:52

CHANCE!!! Gross brings Estupinan into the attack with a well-weighted throughball, and the left-back's first-time cross looks dangerous. Enciso and Welbeck both stretch as the ball flashes across the face, but neither can get there and the ball goes behind!

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:50

We're into two additional minutes at the end of this high-octane first half at Molineux - it's absolutely flown by so far!

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:50

Enciso's attempted throughball to Mitoma in the box takes a slight deflection, allowing Sa an extra half-second to race out and smother the loose ball before the Brighton forward can latch onto it!

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:49

March takes on Ait-Nouri and drills a low cross towards the near post, where Kilman is again on hand to knock the ball well clear.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:48

A smart reverse ball into the area from Gilmour sends Mitoma into the clear again, but the goalscorer's cross into the middle is hacked clear by Kilman!

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:47

Brighton have avoided defeat in their last five league matches when scoring the opener, last losing to Nottingham Forest in April as the Reds fought for survival.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:45

OVER!!! A glorious chance spurned by Wolves! Silva appears trapped but does brilliantly to squeeze the ball into Ait-Nouri's path. Steele races off his line to close the gap, but the left-back can't direct his effort goalwards, firing a half-volley over the empty goalframe from close range!

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:44

Neto cuts inside and whips an inviting cross towards the front post, which Silva is just inches away from nodding home before Steele dives to claim the ball!

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:41

Silva and Neto combine as Wolves race into Brighton territory on the counter-attack. Neto is played into space on the right and shoots, but can only fire a difficult shot into the side netting and behind!

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:39

Brighton have won their first away league game in each of the last four seasons. Only two teams have ever done so in at least five consecutive Premier League campaigns – Chelsea (five) between 2001-02 and 2005-06, and Manchester City (seven) between 2014-15 and 2020-21.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:39

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:38

Cunha breaks forward for Wolves before finding Matheus ahead of him in the box. The winger steps inside Webster before shooting, but can't direct his effort on target as he flashes the ball well wide of the far post!

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:37

It's been a fast and furious start to this game so far, with the opening half-hour seeing shots, saves and cards aplenty, with the highlight of course being that sensational opener from Mitoma.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:35

SAVED!!! Good play from Wolves sees Cunha slip Silva into a huge gap behind Brighton's defence. Bearing down on goal, the forward attempts to place the ball into the near corner, but Steele stands his ground and makes a fantastic save to tip it wide!

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:32

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:31

Brighton have now scored 13 goals in their last four league games against Wolves, as many as they had in their previous 13 against them combined. They've twice netted three goals their previous two visits to Molineux.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:29

Gilmour and Matheus get into a tangle on halfway, leading to a fracas involving both sets of players, but the rather card-happy referee prefers to give the pair a talking to rather than brandishing any further yellows!

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:28

Wolves have failed to win any of the last nine Premier League matches in which they've conceding the opening goal, dating back to mid-February against eventually relegated Southampton.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:25

SAVED!! From the free-kick Gross shoots, looking to catch out Sa, but his fizzed ball through the crowd is read well by the goalkeeper, who is able to save and hold Gross' effort.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:20

Yellow Card Julio César Enciso Espínola

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:20

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:08

Lemina loses out to Enciso on the edge of his own box, and the Brighton playmaker looks to release Welbeck. He finds the striker in the box, but Ait-Nouri steps in with a well-timed tackle to win possession back for Wolves.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:07

BALL IN THE NET!!! Wolves carve their way through, but are denied by the offside flag! Semedo's pull-back to Lemina sees the midfielder shoot from the edge of the box. A deflection skews the ball into Neto's path, but he's in an offside position as he slots it past Steele and the goal will not count!

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:04

March whips a teasing cross towards the back post with plenty of Seagulls closing in, but Sa does well to jump through the crowd and take the ball cleanly.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

15:03

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

They say never change a winning team, but Roberto de Zerbi is clearly keen to build a winning squad with three changes made from Brighton’s 4-1 opening day victory. Adam Webster, Billy Gilmour and Julio Enciso all come into the XI, replacing Jan Paul van Hecke, Mahmoud Dahoud and Joao Pedro, the latter two of which both made their debuts against Luton with Pedro scoring a second-half penalty.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:50

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:37

A narrow 1-0 loss to Manchester United on the opening weekend saw Wolves denied a seemingly blatant penalty in the dying seconds, and Gary O’Neill’s men will be looking to use that decision to their advantage as they seek a first win of the season on home turf.
