Woj: Brooklyn Nets sign head coach Jacque Vaughn to multi-year contract extension

The Brooklyn Nets have signed head coach Jacque Vaughn to a multi-year contract extension, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. This is Vaughn’s ninth year with the franchise and second season as acting head coach.

Vaughn became the head coach for the Nets this season after Steve Nash was fired following a 2-5 record to start this campaign. Since then, Vaughn has coached the team to a 32-19 (.627) despite having to deal with absences from Kyrie Irving (team-imposed suspension) and Kevin Durant (sprained right MCL). The former head coach of the Orlando Magic has led this team well as most of the players, especially center Nic Claxton, have improved leaps and bounds from where they were last season.

After Vaughn became the permanent head coach for Brooklyn, he had a team option for next season. However, with the contract extension, he is now slated to be the man in charge past the 2023-2024 season. Vaughn has a career coaching record of 97-180.
