WNC high school top performers for Week 11 of the fall sports season

Here are the WNC athletes who have had big performances this week in the non-football fall sports.

This list is compiled from information provided to the Citizen Times (sports@citizentimes.com) or posted on MaxPreps or social media.

It will be updated throughout the week.

Saturday

Volleyball

Sophia Overholt, Polk County: The junior outside hitter tallied 16 kills, 15 digs and two aces to help Polk County beat Cherokee 3-1 win and advance to the state semifinals.

Zaelea Eller, Polk County: Eller recorded 27 assists, 11 digs and four aces.

Elena Carroll, Polk County: Carroll amassed 22 digs.

Cross Country

Abby Smith, Asheville School: The Davison College commit won the girls NCISAA 3A championship after back-to-back third place finishes the last two years. Smith finished with a time of 18:40.00.

O'Malley Salinas, Andrews: Salinas finished third at the boys NCHSAA 1A West Regional with a time of 15:55.44.

Leo Murray, Keaton Campbell and Avan Hinkle, Brevard: The Blue Devils' trio finished in the top three spots at the boys NCHSAA 2A West Regional, led by Murray's time of 16:20.60.

Caroline Barton, Carolina Day School: Barton defended her girls NCISAA 2A state title, running a time of 18:17.00 and besting the field by 40 seconds.

Holden Rozof, Carolina Day School: The junior's 16:41.00 time was second-best at the boys 2A NCISAA State XC Championships.

Dvdaya Swimmer, Cherokee: Swimmer won the girls NCHSAA 1A West Regional with a time of 17:55.37.

Dawson Reeves, Christ School: Reeves earned a runner-up finish at the boys 4A NCISAA State XC Championships with a time of 15:36.70, finishing 10 seconds ahead of teammate Eyob Gill.

Logan Russo, Franklin: Russo finished in first place at the boys NCHSAA 3A West Regional with a time of 15:51.80.

Michael Ferguson, North Buncombe: The sophomore was the Black Hawks' best finisher with a time of 16:00.60. His individual second-place performance helped North Buncombe finish second as a team.

Kevin Cordero, Roberson: Cordero finished in 15:54.18, earning third place at the boys NCHSAA 4A West Regional and helping the Rams to a second-place team finish.

Carl Baird, Swain County: Baird finished the boys NCHSAA 1A West Regional in a time of 16:12.21, finishing fifth and helping Swain County win the meet.

Annie Lewis, Swain County: Lewis ran a 18:46.17 to finish third in the girls NCHSAA 1A West Regional, guiding Swain County to a first-place team finish.

Breanna Budzinski, West Henderson: Budzinski earned a first-place finish with a time of 18:07.90 at the girls NCHSAA 3A West Regional.

Thursday

Bailey Rowe, North Henderson: Rowe recorded 25 kills and 14 digs in a 3-0 win vs. Oak Grove.

Leiann Marshall, North Henderson: Marshall tallied 40 kills and nine digs.

Sophia Overholt, Polk County: Overholt accumulated 16 kills, two blocks and 10 digs in a 3-0 win vs. Rosman.

Wednesday

Boys soccer

Clint Wagar, Asheville High: Wagar saved six shots in a 2-0 win against Enka, earning his fifth shutout of the season.

Rion Coadwell, Brevard: The freshman scored two goals, propelling Brevard past Polk County 2-1.

Jonathan Montes, East Henderson: Montes tallied two goals in the Eagles' 2-1 win vs. Smoky Mountain.

Samuel Lewis, Murphy: Lewis scored the winning goal in the Bulldogs' 1-0 victory against Cherokee.

Daniel Garcia, Owen: Garcia scored three goals and assisted on three, tallying 9 total points in Owen's 9-0 win over Mitchell.

AJ Logan, Owen: The senior scored two goals in Owen's victory.

Spencer Woolley, Owen: Woolley racked up a brace.

Dominick Messer, Pisgah: Messer saved all six shots he faced to earn a shutout, his ninth of the season, in a 3-0 win against North Henderson.

Logan Jones, West Henderson: Jones recorded a brace in West Henderson's 3-2 win over Tuscola.

Tuesday

Volleyball

Peyton Taylor, North Henderson: Taylor tallied 15 kills and 7 digs, aiding in the Knights' 3-0 second-round victory over Enka.

Leiann Marshall, North Henderson: Marshall racked up 30 assists.

Morgan Yoder, Polk County: Yoder recorded 16 kills, four blocks and two aces as Polk County beat Mount Airy 3-0 to advance to the third round of the NCHSAA playoffs.

Monday

Boys Soccer

Juan Argueta, Erwin: Argueta netted a hat trick in a 6-1 win vs. McDowell.

Quinn Roberts, Roberson: Roberts recorded two goals in a 2-0 win vs. Reynolds.

Ben Yang, Roberson: Yang tallied seven saves.

Brandon Miranda, Enka: Miranda racked up a hat trick in a 4-0 win vs. North Henderson.

Ulises Padron-Perez, Franklin: Padron-Perez scored one goal in a 1-0 win vs. West Henderson.

William Sinclair, Franklin: Sinclair made six saves.

Noah Backes, Brevard: Backes had two goals in a 4-2 win vs. Hendersonville.

Matthias Newsome, Mountain Heritage: Newsome recorded two goals in a 3-2 win vs. Draughn.

Spencer Wooley, Owen: Wooley tallied two goals and an assist in a 7-0 win vs. Madison.

Aiden Hart, Avery County: Hart scored two goals and added an assist in a 6-2 win vs. Mitchell.

Girls Tennis

Laura Holland and Lydia Holland, Franklin: The Holland twins defeated Maci Stork and Logan Guynn (Franklin) in the NCHSAA 3A West doubles regional finals to advance to states.

Girls Golf

Ivy Young, Mitchell: Young finished seventh in the NCHSAA 1A/2A West regional with a score of 84.

Reagan Greer, Avery County: Greer finished 17th in the NCHSAA 1A/2A West regional with a score of 92.
