Wizards' NBA Draft lottery odds finalized by tiebreaker; receive 8th-best odds

Wizards lottery odds finalized after tiebreaker originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

The Wizards now know their exact odds for the 2023 NBA Draft Lottery, set for May 16 in Chicago. Washington lost a random-drawing tiebreaker to the Pacers on Monday, which means they hold the eighth-best odds in the lottery.

That will yield them a 6.7% chance of landing the No. 1 overall pick and 28.9% odds of selecting in the top four. The Pacers will have slightly better odds due to the tiebreaker, at 6.8% for first overall.

Eighth is the highest the Wizards have been in the lottery since 2019 when they were sixth. The last time they moved up in the lottery they were eighth, back in 2013 when they jumped up to the third overall pick.

Here is how the Wizards' odds will stack up on lottery night (via Tankathon):

No. 1: 6.7%

No. 2: 7.0%

No. 3: 7.4%

No. 4: 7.8%

No. 5-7: N/A

No. 8: 32.9%

No. 9: 31.1%

No. 10: 6.6%

No. 11: >0.0%

The Wizards' most likely draft spot is No. 8 with No. 9 closely behind. Washington has selected ninth in two of the last four drafts and they picked 10th a year ago.

The big prize in this year's lottery is projected to be French big man Victor Wembanyama, who is hailed by many as a once-in-a-generation prospect. Scoot Henderson (G-League Ignite) and Brandon Miller (Alabama) are widely viewed as the most likely prospects to go second overall.
