Wisconsin names their 2023 captains with season just one week away

Wisconsin football is just seven days away from returning, as the Badgers open their season on Saturday against Buffalo at Camp Randall Stadium.

The Badgers are ready to begin the season as camp comes to a close, and with the beginning of game week looming head coach Luke Fickell named his 2023 captains.

It was a pair of players on offense and defense respectively selected by Fickell to lead the Badgers into the year.

The four captains are quarterback Tanner Mordecai, wide receiver Chimere Dike, linebacker Maema Njongmeta, and linebacker Marty Strey.

Strey might be the surprise name of the bunch at least from the outside looking in, but the sixth-year walk-on has been a mainstay for Wisconsin and a leader throughout his time with the Badgers. Having been with the team since his redshirt season in 2018, nobody brings more experience to the table tan the Sun Praire native.
