The Wisconsin men's basketball season opens Nov. 1 with an exhibition before hosting Arkansas State in opener

MADISON – The Wisconsin men’s basketball team is set to open the 2023-24 season Nov. 1 with an exhibition game against visiting UW-Stevens Point.

The Badgers’ first regular-season game is five days later, against visiting Arkansas State.

UW officials released the full nonconference schedule Wednesday.

Arkansas State last season finished 4-14 in the Sun Belt Conference and 10-23 overall.

Games against Tennessee, Providence, Virginia, Marquette and Arizona anchor the nonconference schedule.

UW hosts Tennessee on Nov. 10. The Volunteers finished 11-7 in the SEC and 25-11 overall last season.

Providence hosts UW on Nov. 14, as part of the Gavitt Tipoff games. The Friars finished 13-7 in the Big East and 21-12 overall last season. Kim English is in his first season with the Friars. He replaced Ed Cooley, who took over at Georgetown.

After hosting Robert Morris of the Horizon League on Nov. 17, UW faces ACC power Virginia in the opening round of the Fort Meyers Tip-Off on Nov. 20.

The Badgers then face either SMU or West Virginia on Nov. 22.

UW hosts Western Illinois on Nov. 27. The Leathernecks are competing in the Ohio Valley this season. They finished 9-9 in the Summit League and 16-14 overall last season.

The Badgers then host rival Marquette on Dec. 2 and play at Pac 12 power Arizona on Dec. 9.

Marquette returns most of the key players who helped the Golden Eagles win the Big East regular-season title with a 17-3 mark. Marquette, which has lost the last two meetings to UW, finished 29-7 overall.

Arizona last season finished second in the Pacific 12 at 14-6 and finished 28-7 overall.

UW’s final two nonconference games are Dec. 14 against visiting Jacksonville State and Dec. 22 against visiting Chicago State.

Jacksonville State finished 6-12 in the Atlantic Sun and 13-18 overall last season. The Gamecocks are competing in Conference USA this season.

Chicago State, an independent, finished 11-20 last season.
