Wisconsin loses out on a three-star defensive lineman who commits to a Big Ten rival

Wisconsin lost out on a 2024 defensive lineman on Tuesday: Joe Barna will stay in his home state.

Barna is a Wheaton, Illinois, native who announced he will stay home to play for the Illinois Fighting Illini.

Barna visited both Wisconsin and Illinois this month, heading to Madison on June 16 before heading to Illinois on June 23. Ultimately, he committed to Bret Bielema and the Fighting Illini.

Barna also had offers from Oklahoma, Kansas, Washington State and Purdue.

Barna is a three-star prospect according to 247Sports, and ranked as the No. 27 player in the state of Illinois overall.
