Winterizing the boat
Oct. 28—GROTON — Jay and Karen Kalbacher of West Hartford work on setting up a frame for a cover as they winterize their boat at Spicer's Marina in Noank Thursday. Jay said the couple has owned their sailboat Principessa, a Sea Sprite 34, for five years.
"We get a little better every year," he said of the winterization process. He remembers the first year they tried to do it in a day and were out well past sunset.
"There are plenty of things I'd rather be doing today," said Karen of the work. "But the summers on the water are worth doing this in the cold."
