Winners crowned at 26th annual Cheboygan Salmon tournament
CHEBOYGAN – It was a great weekend for fishing in Cheboygan, which hosted the 26th annual Cheboygan Salmon tournament on Saturday.
Capturing this year’s Boat Division title was Diabolical I, captained by Mark McClutchey of Indian River. The total weight recorded was 71.19 pounds.
Diabolical II, captained by Indian River’s Jack France, finished second at 61.73 pounds.
McClutchey also took first in the Largest Salmon division at 17.09 pounds. Sault Ste. Marie’s Brian Wilson was first at 7.11 pounds in the Largest Steelhead division. Cheboygan’s Todd Proctor recorded 6.20 pounds to win the Mystery Weight division, and Fremont’s Chris Suchner was the Largest Walleye division winner at 6.35 pounds.
The tournament began with a shotgun start at 6 a.m. on Saturday morning, before anglers returned at 2 p.m. The official weigh-in started in the festival tent at 3 p.m.
Providing entertainment on Friday and Saturday were Cheboygan’s Charlie Reager and Billy Jewell.
