Winnebago Lutheran boys basketball falls to Omro in battle for first place in the Flyway

FOND DU LAC - After leading by as many as 11 points in both halves, Winnebago Lutheran (7-5, 6-1) gave up a 20-2 second half run to Omro (10-2, 7-0) on the way to a 93-87 loss in a battle for control of first place in the Flyway.

The Foxes' run began with a little under seven minutes to go as a 71-62 WLA lead quickly evaporated on back-to-back-to-back threes. Mason Huth tied it for Omro at 71 and then sparked another 9-0 run for the Foxes after Gannan Schwartz evened things for the Vikings at 73.

Noah Gensler led all scorers at the half with 18 points and finished with a game-high 31, including four three-pointers, to lead WLA.

Schwartz scored 16 of his 27 points in the second half to help keep the Vikings close in a tight battle and Sam Loehr added 19 points, 15 in the first half.

Ryan Schoeni led Omro with 15 first half points, finishing with a team-high 29 points, and Keenan Rahn followed with 21.

Huth also made four threes, finishing with 18 points, and Lucas Kasuboski rounded out the Foxes' scoring leaders with 12 points - 10 of which came in the first half.

BOYS BASKETBALL

St. Mary's Springs 67, North Fond du Lac 44

FOND DU LAC - The Ledgers (7-5, 4-3) cruised to a Flyway conference victory over the Orioles (0-14, 0-7).

A whopping 13 total players contributed to the box score for Springs, led by John Coon and Noah Moul with 11 points apiece.

Jesus Juarez scored a game-high 15 points to lead North Fondy and Abe Maurer followed with 14, including four three-pointers, all in the first half.

Lomira 53, Laconia 46

ROSENDALE - The Lions (5-6, 4-2) defeated the Spartans (5-4, 3-3) in a Flyway conference battle.

Jake Broeske double-doubled with a game-high 16 points and 16 rebounds to lead Lomira. Jackson Goebel added 15 points and five boards for the Lions.

Ethan Pinno led Laconia with 15 points, all in the second half, and grabbed four rebounds with two assists. Cash Farrell added nine points, five boards and Keeton Grade nearly double-doubled with eight points, 10 rebounds.

CAMPBELLSPORT - The Cardinals (2-9, 2-5) won big over the Cougars (3-10, 1-6) in a Flyway conference matchup.

Austin Thoreson led Mayville with 18 points and Braden Drinkwine followed with 17, including five 3-pointers. Joren Schlender tacked on 13 points and Cohen Raddemann rounded out the Cardinals' scoring leaders with 10 points.

HORICON - The Oaks (6-4, 5-2) moved into a three-way tie for first place in the Trailways-East with the victory over the Marshmen (9-2, 5-2).

Mitchell Moser led Oakfield with 16 points and Hunter Sabel followed with 13. Bo Bijl added 11 points and Bailey Schepp had 10 for the Oaks.

Lourdes Academy 65, Central Wisconsin Christian 57

OSHKOSH - The Knights (9-3, 5-2) kept pace with Oakfield and Horicon for the top spot in the Trailways-East with a victory over the Crusaders (4-5, 2-2).

JJ McKellips led Lourdes with 23 points and Mitchell Wing added 20 for the Knights.

No. 1 (D-3) Waupun 73, No. 10 (D-3) Xavier 63

WAUPUN - The top-ranked Warriors (13-1, 6-0 East Central) pulled away from the No. 10-ranked Hawks (9-5, 3-1 Bay) after leading by two at the half, picking up a non-conference win in a battle between two top-10 Division 3 teams.

Kayl Petersen showed out with her 12th double-double of the season, collecting 26 points, 15 rebounds, six assists, three blocks and three steals to lead Waupun.

Mady VandeStreek followed with 18 points, five boards and three assists and Lydia Aalsma added 13 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

Halle Vande Hey led Xavier with 23 points, Carsyn Stempa added 13, and Elle Krull had 11 for the Hawks.

OSHKOSH - Lourdes (9-2, 7-0) remained perfect in the Trailways-East with a dominant victory over the Crusaders (3-8, 0-4).

Ella Slusarski led a triumvirate of Knights in double-digit scoring with 15 points, three rebounds, four assists and five steals. Hailee Bauer added 13 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals and Delaney Ruedinger rounded out the scoring leaders for Lourdes with 12 points, three boards, four assists and two steals.

St. Mary's Springs 10, Oshkosh 1

FOND DU LAC - The Ledgers (7-7, 4-1) got out to a hot 4-0 start in the first period and piled on five more goals in the second to pick up a blowout Badgerland conference win over the Ice Hawks (7-8, 1-3).

Armani Fisher opened the scoring and led Springs with both four assists and four goals, including a hat trick in the second period. Teigue Wagner added a pair of goals in the first and Austin Westergaard closed out both the first and third period with a goal.

Isaac Sabel ignited the Ledgers' huge second period with a goal 50 seconds in and Presten Flood closed it out with his first goal of the game.

Westergaard followed Fisher in assists with three, Wagner and Tate Baker each had two, and Brody Hyland and Pierce Weber both had one.

Springs converted 4-of-5 times on the power play while the Ice Hawks went 0-for-3.

Mason Monhen scored the lone goal for Oshkosh in the second period, his fourth of the season, on an assist from Zander Crook. Monhen has now scored in three consecutive games and earned at least a point in four straight contests.

Brendan Gaertig and Memphis Young split time in net for the Ledgers. Gaertig saved eight shots and Young had seven saves.

Gage Bauer had 39 saves for Oshkosh through two periods and Chase Magadanz made 10 saves in third period relief work.

Fond du Lac 4, Fox Cities 0

FOND DU LAC - The Cardinals (9-5-1, 5-1) scored a goal in each of the first two periods and iced the game with two more in the third on the way to a shutout victory over the Stars (5-9, 1-3) in Badgerland action.

Parker Ziebell, Drake Deanovich, Brayden Burgess and Connor Klapperich scored for Fond du Lac. Caden Umentum had two assists and both Klapperich and Aiden Heffner had one apiece.

Spencer Shober stopped eight shots for Fondy and Fox Cities goalie Elliot Reichenbacher had 27 saves for the Stars.
