Windthorst native Vieth in top 10 at World Series of Poker main event

LAS VEGAS — Windthorst native Mason Vieth is sitting in prime position after three days in the main event of the World Series of Poker.

Vieth has collected 1,602,000 chips during the tournament, putting him in ninth place in the world’s most notable poker tournament.

The 54th edition of the WSOP main event is being played at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas, setting a record with 10,043 entries for an overall prize pool of $93,399,900. The buy-in was $10,000.

Vieth is all but guaranteed to collect at least some of that money.

The Texas Hold ‘Em style tournament has dwindled to 1,517 players with the top 1,507 making the money. The minimum payout for those making the money is $15,000. The winner will claim $12,100,000.

Vieth climbed the ranks during the tournament’s third day, adding 1,298,500 chips to his count. Antonio Mallol Heredia (1,899,000) holds a slim advantage on Chance Kornuth (1,887,000) as chip leader.

The action resumes at noon Monday with the small blind at 4,000 and the big blind at 8,000.
