Wilson County sends 15 wrestlers to state meet

Feb. 24—Green Hill's Jake Stacey entered the state wrestling tournament looking to repeat as a state champion.

The senior won the 170-pound title last year after finishing third in 2022. That weight has been abolished and he's now at 175.

He was one of 15 wrestlers from Wilson County who opened the Class A, AA or girls rounds of 16 yesterday at the Williamson County Expo Center in Franklin.

Consolation rounds will continue today starting at 9 a.m. with the championship finals set for 5 p.m.

Stacey was joined by five Green Hill teammates in the Class AA brackets — Rambang Rambang at 113 pounds, Hayden Hunt 126, Alex Velazquez at 144, Luke Athoe at 150 and Luka Nash at 185.

Two Wilson Central wrestlers — Vance Blake (144) and Camron Isbel (165 after finishing sixth at 160 last year) — and Mt. Juliet's Michael Johnson (120) also competed.

Watertown has three wrestlers — Gunnar Tompkins (120), Gabe York (126) and Wesley Hamlet (285) in Class A.

Mt. Juliet has two girls in the field. They are Mya Bundy at 120 and Julia Jirka at 152.
