Williamsville's Will Seman, SHG's Izzy Hassebrock lead area golfers at sectionals
Here are the Springfield area golfers advancing to the IHSA state finals beginning on Friday, Oct. 6.
On the boys side, the Class 3A state finals takes place at The Den at Fox Creek Golf Course in Bloomington. The Weibring Golf Club in Normal hosts 2A while Prairie Vista Golf Course in Bloomington will field 1A.
On the girls side, 1A state finalists will head to Red Tail Run Golf Course while 2A visits Hickory Point Golf Course in Decatur.
Final rounds are Saturday, Oct. 7.

BOYS GOLF
CLASS 3A
PEKIN SECTIONAL
What to know: Springfield High senior teammates James Oh and Julian Valenti led the area to advance to the state finals.
Oh tied for seventh overall 4-over-par 76 while Valenti tied for 12th with a 78 at Lick Creek Golf Course.
Chatham Glenwood junior Drew Downen tied for 14th place overall with a 79 and birdied a playoff hole to grab the final qualifying spot. The Titans missed third place as a team by one stroke.
Lincoln-Way East’s Tanner Leonard was the medalist with a 72.
CLASS 2A
PEORIA RICHWOODS SECTIONAL
What to know: Williamsville senior Will Seman topped the entire field with an even-par 72 at Kellogg Golf Course.
He won by one stroke over Jacksonville junior Colton Barr’s 73. Seman’s teammate, Max Fisher also qualified with a 76.
The Crimsons garnered second place behind team champion Mahomet-Seymour. Maddux Moore and Thatcher Frye each tied with a 79 while Elias Martin had an 80 for Jacksonville.

Sacred Heart-Griffin senior Cal Johnson tied for seventh place overall with a 75 and the Cyclones advanced to the IHSA state finals as a team in third place.
Alio Giacomini (78) and Augustine Hyde (79) were second and third on the team, respectively. Mac Stone and Zach Watson each had an 83.
MOUNT CARMEL SECTIONAL
What to know: South County/New Berlin senior Logan Smith advanced to the state finals with a 73 at West Berwick Golf Club.
Mascoutah’s Jacob Florek won with a round of 1-under-par 70.
CLASS 1A
AUBURN SECTIONAL
What to know: Rushville-Industry juniors Bennett and Reed Fretueg tied for fifth place overall at Edgewood Golf Club and the Rockets earned third place as a team.
Both shot 8-over-par 79. Teammates Hudson Brubaker (85) and Owen Schoonover (86) also contributed to the final team tally.
Sophomore Beau Eftink was the medalist with a 72 for team champion Quincy Notre Dame. Pleasant Plains junior Anderson Thielen tied for third place with a 77.
Jacksonville Routt’s A.J. Charpentier (81) and Petersburg PORTA’s Brady Kinney (82) also advanced.
WATERLOO GIBAULT SECTIONAL
What to know: Tug and Sam Schwab tied for 14th place overall and Litchfield claimed first place as a team by one stroke ahead of Effingham St. Anthony at Acorns Golf Links.
They both shot 4-over-par 76. Tug earned second place at last year’s 1A state finals behind St. Anthony’s Joey Trupiano, who had a 77 at sectionals.
Litchfield teammates A.J. Odle (79) and Tucker Maguire (80) pitched in as well.

GIRLS GOLF
CLASS 1A
ROXANA SECTIONAL
What to know: Sacred Heart-Griffin junior Izzy Hassebrock soared to first place overall 3-under-par 69 at Belk Park Golf Course and the Cyclones rolled to the team sectional title by 39 strokes.
Hassebrock also dominated the Auburn Regional 4-under 67 at Edgewood on Thursday.
Teammates Maddy Johnston (78), Macie Petropoulos (80) and Natalie Zak (80) also led the Cyclones to first place as a team.
Athens senior Catalina Easley, the State Journal-Register's reigning Small School Girls Golfer of the Year, was fourth with a 73 while Rochester senior Kiley Torres tied for fifth with a 75.
Pleasant Plains junior Alaina Ervin and Williamsville senior Zoey Beard advanced with 77s.
