Wide receiver-needy Jets lose Jeff Smith to COVID-19 list

Another day, another problem at wide receiver. And another Jet added to the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Jeff Smith became Gang Green’s latest player to land on the list Friday, joining it a day after fellow WR Keelan Cole was activated off it. While Cole’s return is helpful, the Jets were already thin in the pass-catching department before Smith went down. Rookie sensation Elijah Moore is dealing with a quad injury, while Corey Davis’ season ended with a core muscle injury earlier this week.

Moore is questionable for Sunday’s game against the Saints, but he hasn’t practiced all week. Cole, Denzel Mims, Jamison Crowder and Braxton Berrios are the only other receivers on the roster.

New York could elevate receivers Vyncint Smith, D.J. Montgomery or Tarik Black from the practice squad.

Sunday would have been an opportunity for Jeff Smith, who has just six catches for 98 yards this season. He’s been able to stick around due to his impact on special teams.
