Why Zeeland East's Trevor Raade chose Western Michigan

ZEELAND - Two years ago, Trevor Raade made his mark on the pitchers mound, becoming one of the aces in West Michigan.

After an injury, last year the Zeeland East junior made his mark at the plate, batting .314 and earning all-conference honors.

That adds up to a well-rounded baseball player ready for the college level.

Raade signed on Wednesday with Western Michigan University.

"I chose Western because it felt like home right when I stepped on campus," Raade said. "The coaching staff is amazing and have built an incredible culture that I'm excited to be a part of. It means a lot to me because not a lot of people have the opportunity to play baseball or sports in general so everyday I'm blessed to be in this position."

As a sophomore, Raade hit .433 and on the mound was 6-1 with a 256 ERA with 64 strikeouts in 40-plus innings.

He has one more year to go with the Chix.

"Trevor once again anchored our lineup this year. He is a three-year varsity starter and has committed to play at Western Michigan University after next season," Zeeland East coach Matt Sattler said. "Every team we played prepared for him and because of that, his teammates were able to see better pitches and produce."
